V-Step

  • Start Position:
    • Stand on the floor centered in front of a horizontally positioned step platform, facing its long side.
    • Begin with the feet together or approximately hip-width apart, maintaining an upright posture.
    • Position yourself close enough to step comfortably onto the platform without reaching excessively forward.
    • Use a stable platform at a height appropriate for your experience and ability.
  • Description:
    • The V-Step is a basic four-count step aerobics movement in which the feet step outward onto opposite sides of the platform and then return toward the center of the floor.
    • The movement resembles a basic step but uses a wider foot placement on the platform, creating a V-shaped pattern.
    • The V-Step may be performed with either the right or left foot leading and is commonly incorporated into step aerobics combinations.
  • Sequence:
    1. Count 1: Step onto the right side of the platform with the right foot, placing it comfortably toward the right end.
    2. Count 2: Step onto the left side of the platform with the left foot, creating a wide stance with both feet securely positioned on the platform.
    3. Count 3: Step backward onto the floor near the center of the platform with the right foot.
    4. Count 4: Bring the left foot backward onto the floor beside the right foot, returning to the starting position.
    5. Repeat the movement with the right foot leading, or reverse the sequence by beginning with the left foot.
  • Notes:
    • The V-Step is a four-count step aerobics movement that creates a V-shaped foot pattern.
    • The feet begin together or approximately hip-width apart on the floor, move outward to a wider stance on the platform, and return toward the center when stepping down.
    • The example above begins with the right foot. The movement may also be performed with the left foot leading.
    • Variation: Alternate between a right-leading V-Step and a left-leading V-Step to add variety to the aerobic routine.
    • Place each foot securely on the platform and maintain enough distance from its edges to avoid slipping.
    • The width of the V should be comfortable and appropriate for the size of the platform. Avoid placing the feet excessively far apart.
    • Keep the knees moving naturally in the same direction as the toes and maintain an upright posture.
    • Step backward onto the floor with control rather than jumping down from the platform.
    • For a lower-intensity variation, use a lower platform or practice the V-shaped foot pattern on the floor before stepping onto the platform.
    • Precaution: Avoid stepping so widely that either foot extends beyond the platform surface. Maintain balance and secure foot placement throughout the movement.
