Over the Top
- Start Position:
- Stand on the floor beside the long side of a horizontally positioned step platform, facing toward the left end of the platform.
- Position yourself so that you can step onto the platform and cross to the opposite side.
- Use a stable platform at a height appropriate for your experience and ability.
- Description:
- Over the Top is a four-count step aerobics movement that takes the participant across the platform from one side to the other. Both feet step onto the platform before stepping down on the opposite side. The movement can be repeated in the reverse direction or incorporated into longer aerobic combinations.
- Sequence:
- Count 1: Step onto the platform with the right foot.
- Count 2: Bring the left foot onto the platform beside the right foot.
- Count 3: Step down onto the floor on the opposite side of the platform with the right foot.
- Count 4: Bring the left foot down onto the floor beside the right foot.
- To repeat the movement in the opposite direction, reverse the footwork as needed.
- Notes:
- Over the Top is a simple way to travel from one side of the platform to the other.
- The movement may be performed in either direction by reversing the footwork.
- Practice the basic four-count movement before attempting more complex variations.
- Experienced participants may incorporate a small hop or controlled leg movement as a variation, provided adequate balance and secure foot placement can be maintained.
- For a lower-impact version, keep the movement entirely step-based without hopping.
- Place the entire foot securely on the platform and step down with control.
- Precaution: Avoid jumping or kicking near the platform edges if doing so compromises balance or increases the risk of tripping.
- Keep the knees aligned naturally with the direction of movement and avoid twisting when changing direction.
- For a more advanced combination using repeated step-overs, see Over the Moon.
