Over the Moon
- Start Position:
- Stand on the floor beside the long side of a horizontally positioned step platform, facing sideways toward the platform.
- Position yourself so that you can step across the platform with sufficient space to land on the opposite side.
- Use a stable platform at a height appropriate for your experience and ability.
- Description:
- Over the Moon is a step aerobics combination involving repeated step-over movements across the platform. The movement begins with controlled stepping and may finish with an optional hop over the platform. Participants can alternate directions as they move from one side of the platform to the other.
- Sequence:
- Begin standing beside the platform.
- Step onto the platform with the right foot.
- Bring the left foot onto the platform beside the right foot and lightly tap without transferring weight.
- Step down onto the floor on the opposite side of the platform with the left foot, followed by the right foot.
- Repeat the step-over movement in the opposite direction, reversing the footwork as needed.
- Continue alternating directions until three step-over repetitions have been completed.
- On the fourth repetition, experienced participants may substitute a controlled hop over the platform, provided they can clear it safely and land with good balance.
- For a lower-impact variation, perform another step-over instead of the hop.
- Repeat the combination as appropriate for the aerobic routine.
- Notes:
- The combination consists of three regular step-over repetitions followed by an optional hop on the fourth repetition.
- The step-over portion can be performed without jumping, making it suitable for lower-impact modifications.
- Practice stepping across the platform slowly before increasing the tempo.
- Maintain secure foot placement and avoid rushing the transition from the platform to the floor.
- Precaution: Hopping completely over an elevated platform is an advanced, high-impact movement with a risk of tripping or falling. It should not be attempted unless the participant has sufficient clearance, coordination and control.
- A safer alternative is to perform the hop beside the platform on the floor or simply repeat the regular step-over.
- Land softly with the knees and hips bending naturally to absorb impact.
